Mark McCafferty is an in demand percussionist in the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. An expert performer and teacher in all aspects of percussion, McCafferty has been featured on concerts as close to home as Delhi, Ohio, to as far away as Valencia, Spain. Teaching credits include hundreds of private lesson students across the state of Kentucky, Marching and Concert Percussion Ensembles all over Kentucky, Percussion Instructor, Band Director, and Chair of the Department of Music at Mount Saint Joseph University.
McCafferty is an in demand percussionist for concerts, musicals, church music, and pick-up gigs. Highlights include being featured on Cincinnati Channel 12’s Sunday Morning Show, several KMEA convention performances, and being featured on Bob Ross’s debut CD, Arriving.
Besides being a member of the Vic Firth Education Team, McCafferty’s instruction has been recognized through the excellence his students have achieved. Many of them have won places in all District Bands, All State Bands, various Cincinnati based ensembles (CSYO, CYWE, etc), as well as several who have won music scholarships at area Universities. A recent student won the Instrumental Category of the Cincinnati Overture Awards.
An active composer and arranger, McCafferty’s work has been heard for years in KMEA Marching Competitions, including several Finals performances, as well as in concert with Mount Saint Joseph University. Several works have been published, and are available at Sheetmusicplus.com.
Beginning with his first three timpani, McCafferty developed a passion for percussion maintenance and repair, and is in demand for services ranging from head changing to balancing spring replacement. Through his repair efforts, McCafferty has assisted several schools in continuing to offer performance opportunities, rather than being required to cut a program due to the perceived inadequacy of available percussion equipment.
